Congratulations to Artless Collective for winning the inaugural Northern Filmmaking Award for the Behchokǫ̀ Evacuation Documentary.

This award is presented in partnership with the NWT Film Commission and celebrates excellence in filmmakers from the Northwest Territories.

Behchokǫ̀ Evacuation Documentary: In the summer of 2023 almost 2000 Tlicho Citizens were evacuated for the first time from their home community of Behchokǫ̀ due to wildfires. To ensure the cultural safety of our Citizens, Tlicho Government provided many essential support services while reestablishing effective governance operations as all offices and programming in Behchokǫ̀ (head office of the Tlicho Government) was closed. This documentary shows the challenges faced and the resilience shown by the Tlicho Nation, especially our youth and elders, as Tlicho Government officials worked – many evacuees themselves - to support our Citizens….In Tlicho Unity.
