WAMP with support from the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment’s’ Film Commission, is offering a script-to-screen workshop series that will allow artists to learn and create along the whole production process – enrol in the whole series or to pick and choose individual workshops. These workshops are taught by a combination of staff and local freelance producers from the community over the course of six months. These workshops include Screenwriting, Directing, Pre-production, Film Equipment, Film Production, Post Production, Marketing, and Exhibition. This program will run from May to October 2020. The Production workshop is only for participants of the whole series.

Workshop 1: Screenwriting with Lindsey McNeill ***Completed****
May 7-28, 2020; Thursdays, 7-8:30 PM
This class covers the basics of screenwriting and helps participants develop a 1-3 minute short film over the course of a month. This includes four in-person sessions, take-home assignments, writing, and reading. Lead by Screenwriter Lindsey McNeill, who created the concept and screenplay for the feature film and web series for Bite TV and Super Channel titled Truckstop Bloodsuckers. The project was nominated for six Rosie Awards and won “Best Foreign Film” at the Bare Bones International Film Festival (Muskogee, Oklahoma).
Workshop 2: Directing with Jen Walden ***Delivered Online – In Progress***
June 4-25; Thursdays 7-8:30 PM
Participants will study scenes and practice directing Actors with Yellowknife’s own Jennifer Walden. Walden was one of six women directors to participate in the inaugural Woman Directors Mentorship Program by the Canadian Academy of Film and Television. She has also Directed several local short films, a Feature Film and a Season of Reality Tv.
Workshop 3: Pre-Production with Jeremy Emerson ***Delivered Online***

Hands-on walk through on Film Pre-production. Using a template and experienced instructors, participants will learn scheduling, budgeting, organizing releases, Auditions, and Call sheet preparation. Led by WAMP E.D. Jeremy Emerson.
Workshop 4: Film Equipment with Terry Woolf ***Delivered Online***

Participants get hands-on tutorials of camera equipment in the first session, Lighting and grip equipment in the second, location sound equipment in the third, and sliders, cranes, and dollies in the fourth. Led by WAMP Production Manager Terry Woolf who has over forty years in production in the NWT which has garnered him a Gemini Award, Gabriel Award, AFVF Red Ribbon, and an Emmy Nominated Camera Operator.
Workshop 5: Film Production with Ben McGregor and Jay Bulckaert***Delivered In Person***

During the summer, participants will have two days to shoot each of their short films. During the production of each film, a Production mentor will be on-set to help guide filmmakers to completion. These mentors will be Ben Mcgregor and Jay Bulckaert supported by WAMP staff and members. This workshop is only available to participants of the full series.
Workshop 6: Post Production with WAMP staff ***Delivery TBD***

In this series, participants learn the basics of programs in the Adobe Creative Suite. This includes Premiere Pro, Illustrator, In-design, and Photoshop over the course of a week. WAMP staff will then mentor participants until they complete their film.
Workshop 7: Marketing & Exhibition***Delivery TBD***

Participants will watch each other’s films as a group to provide and receive constructive feedback. They will also learn how to market and exhibit their films to the world, and prepare for screening in the Yellowknife Film Festival Shorts Program (November 3-8, 2020). This includes producing posters, trailers, promotional materials, and a festival strategy.
