The VR doc was one of five videos produced for the Northern Sights 360 VR project aimed at helping Northern Artists broaden the reach of their art forms, in the face of geographical isolation from audiences, critical contexts, collaborators, and new technologies.
‘Judges felt they were sitting right there, in a privileged circle they would not access and felt humbled. The simplicity and vastness of the location, contemporary music paired with traditional drumming, raised their heartbeat into a trance and some tears in the eyes. They felt Leela was singing for them only and made the experience very personal. They loved the themes of the work, raising important issues about women, environment, water and its protection entrusted to generations, through a love song for the Sahtu’
