Video Sketchbook is a free workshop series focused on challenging the creativity of new and emerging video-makers. It is not a technical workshop; but rather, it is for anyone who can press record, who can make a basic edit with imovie and who enjoys being creative. In the end, participants will discover a plethora of creative ideas that might otherwise go unnoticed, learn to discuss film and video more critically, and will have made a bunch of short videos, which comprise their video sketchbook.
Workshops are every other Thursday evening starting May 17th, 18:30-21:00hrs at the Heritage Museum. Again attendance is FREE!

1. THE MUSIC VIDEO 'From Devo to Gaga'
For this first session of Video Sketchbook, we look to inspire ideas for the 'WAMP 48 Music Video Competition'. We will surf the web for the best, worst, and weirdest music videos of all time, and examine them for their story, concept and aesthetic merits and faults. *Note: Participants may be asked to site a music video of their choice for the sake of discussion.
Video Sketchbook Challenge!
'Tableau Vivant'- Using video and real life characters, costumes, props, setting, etc. reproduce/reinterpret a painting of your choice. The painting can be anything from classic art history to something of your own. Consider imitating its aesthetic details such as: colour, texture, lighting and most importantly composition! Consider whether the characters and/or camera should move, or just hold still? Add music if you like.
BUT ONLY USE ONE SHOT <NO EDITING!>. Be creative with your interpretation and have fun!
'Tableau Vivant' projects will be critiqued next class: Thursday, May 31st.
*Remember to bring the referenced painted image for comparison.
